ICYMI: The First Sapphic Shred

Katterhaus put on its first ever Sapphic Shred on November 9th, 2025 — the Queer Hobby Hangout.

Sapphics from across the Bay Area all met at Dolores Park to share their hobbies with the city of San Francisco. From exotic snakes to a fingerboard skatepark, The Sapphic Shred is meant to be a place to share your fun hobby and maybe pick up another one along the way.

To be quite honest with all of you, I personally was very nervous about this event (and Cameron can tell you). So thank you to those who showed up and just went with it, this was the first time Katterhaus has done something like this and your support meant a lot.

And now for those who could not make it, I will give you a rundown of how it went — so it feels like you were there.

Setting Up

We left the original cooler at Noni’s house. We almost forgot Cameron’s speaker and thought we left her crocheted things at my house. I almost got too scared to bring Sapphic Square. We bought Pepsi and 7 Up as our drinks.

Haley (AKA Your Local Bug Dealer) brought her entire bug collection — literally all 1,377 of them. “Can someone help us woth critters” is the text I got while I saw her pull 9 tubs of exotic pill bugs out of her car. Cam picked out the spot when we got there and got the table after we helped the bug colony migrate to the event, forever grateful.

Something I will say is that I did not freak out, uh let’s go KC!

The Event

Many attendees arrived on gay time, expected nothing less from these icons honestly. Parking at Dolores Park was tough, but everyone seemed to have gotten a spot someway and somehow.

We sent out a map to all of our guests to find us, first guest to arrive was Mack who won a fingerboard courtesy of Obsius Fingerboards. Other fingerboards were given away at the event to our friends Casper who had the most unique hobby (this glowstick juggling contraption) and Tati who still made it to the event after working some long hours lately.

I was giving out impromptu fingerboard lessons on Sapphic Square while crochet strings, Pepsi, and pill bugs crawled through queer hands.

As the sun set, well — who am I kidding. Let’s just show you how it went.
